School Closings

Procedures for Closing School
In the event of severe weather conditions, natural disaster, civil emergency or internal building problems such as fire, lack of water or heat, city schools or Cedar Hill School alone may be forced to close. The procedures listed below will be followed.

If possible, information will be broadcast on the following stations. Our room representatives have the phone numbers of the students in their child’s classroom, and they make every effort to contact parents in the case of early closing. Again, please make sure that we are always updated on any changes regarding phone numbers, or employment.

If school is to be dismissed after the opening of school the following procedures will be followed.

  • Due to inclement weather, an announcement to that effect regarding the dismissal will be made on the previously listed radio and television stations.
  • ARRANGEMENTS should be made by parents who will not be home to inform their child of a place to go in the event of an emergency.
  • Telephone calls to the school office should be limited to emergency calls.
  • Close attention should be paid to the local radio stations for detailed information regarding early dismissals.
  • Please understand that the school HAS ONLY TWO TELEPHONE LINES AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO CONTACT ALL FAMILIES. OUR LINES NEED TO BE KEPT CLEAR FOR INCOMING CALLS AND OTHER EMERGENCY PURPOSES.
  • Parents who are transporting children from school during any emergency closings must park in the Parent Parking Lot on Red Chimney Drive, only. The rear parking lot is for faculty and staff only.
