Bus Privileges

Bus Schedules
A copy of the Bus Routes is published in the Warwick Beacon and Providence Journal prior to the start of school each year, usually during the week prior to Labor Day. IF your child is eligible for a bus pass, it will be handed out on the first day of school. Bus eligibility changes as the student gets older. Transportation limits will be sent home the first day of school.

Warwick Public Schools Code of Behavior
Students shall conduct themselves in an orderly and respectful manner. The school bus is a classroom on wheels. Students should act on a school bus as they would in a classroom. The driver is in charge of the school bus in the same manner as a teacher is in charge of the classroom.

Examples of unacceptable behavior that will result in the suspension of bus privileges:

  • Fighting or assault on the bus.
  • Possession or use of illicit drugs or alcohol.
  • Smoking or the lighting of flammable objects.
  • Insulting, insolent or otherwise unseemly behavior to the driver or other students on the bus.
  • Causing a disturbance by teasing or threatening the driver or students.
  • Damaging school bus property and/or personal property. It will be the responsibility of the parents of those students involved for reimbursement to the Warwick School Department.
  • Tampering with or using the Emergency Door without the permission of the driver.
  • Throwing objects in the bus or out of the windows.
  • Throwing an object or objects at the bus.

Examples of unacceptable behavior that may result in disciplinary action possibly leading to the suspension of bus privileges:

  • Shouting or otherwise making noises on the bus that create a distraction to the driver.
  • Moving about within the bus while the bus is in motion.
  • Standing or moving at the bus stop in such a manner as to create a danger to self or others.

The following steps will be taken in the event of misbehavior on the school bus that violates the rules stated above:

  • Misbehavior by a student is reported by the bus driver to the Principal.
  • First incident, a verbal warning. Second incident, parent advised by phone and/or warning notice mailed. Third incident, parent advised by phone or mail of suspension to take place and length of time. A suspension notice will be sent home. However, should the first incident be severe, bus privileges would be suspended at that time.
  • Only eligible students may ride the bus.
  • Children must ride on their assigned bus and not a friend’s bus.
  • Any changes to a student’s bus schedule must be made in writing. Sustained periods of change in travel routine must be discussed with the Principal.
