Rules for Cedar Hill Elementary Children

  • All student belongings should be labeled with individual student names. Please make sure your child’s name is on lunch boxes, bag lunches, all apparel such as hats, coats, gloves.  Please make sure that your child’s name is on their backpack. This will facilitate the quicker return of lost items throughout the school year.
  • Impress upon your child the importance of showing respect for others and the property of others.
  • Students shall bring home weekly folders each and every Friday. These folders will include daily work and school notices.
  • Students are not allowed on school property before 8:25 am.
  • Students shall not enter classrooms prior to 8:40 am.
  • Morning playground time is not for athletic activities. Due to the crowding and large number of children, organized games cannot be played.
  • Students may not ride bicycles on the playground. They will be allowed to ride bicycles to school, but should exercise caution with the bicycles as they proceed to the bicycle racks. BICYCLE SAFETY:  Students in grades four through six will be allowed to ride their bicycles to school.  Each student must submit a permission slip that is signed by his or her parent or guardian.  State law requires that children under 12 years are required to wear helmets while riding bicycles.  Cedar Hill School will not accept any responsibility for the security of bicycles.
  • During inclement weather, all students will be allowed to enter the All-purpose Room to await the morning entrance bell.
  • Students shall leave the school property only with the permission of the building principal.
  • Students and parents will not be allowed to retrieve books or personal belongings after the school day has ended. No one is allowed access to the building after 3:00pm.
  • Students may not cross the rear access road to the teachers’ parking lot. Students who are designated walkers must travel all the way around the building and follow the path to Cowesett Road.

Building Rules

  • All students will participate in opening exercises including the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, a moment of silence, and other patriotic exercises except where expressly prohibited by religious belief. No child shall be disruptive during said exercises.
  • Students will move about the building only with permission of teachers or principal. They will proceed in an orderly and quiet fashion.
  • Students are responsible for any money and other valuables that they bring to school. Toys of any kind are not allowed in the school building or on the bus.
  • During any and all evacuation drills, students will exit the building in a quiet an orderly fashion.
  • Students will obey rules regarding the use of the lavatory.
  • Student will not be allowed to chew gum anywhere on the school property.
  • Student snack guidelines will be followed according to school department policy and teacher decisions within the individual classrooms.
  • Fighting will not be tolerated; a loss of privileges, suspension or staying after school may result
  • Student will obey rules established for the efficient operation of the All-Purpose Room.
  • Students who miss the afternoon buses must report to the Office. They will not be allowed to walk home.
  • Students will assist the teachers in keeping classrooms, hallways, and grounds neat and orderly.
  • Once students have been dismissed, they are not to re-enter the building.
  • Students will not bring radios, jackknives, squirt guns, or any others similar devices that would disrupt school routines on school property. If found, these will not be confiscated and will be returned at a time chosen by the school official in charge.
  • Students who have been absent must bring a written note to school upon their return explaining the absence.
  • Students shall follow system rules regarding conduct on the buses.
  • Students are responsible for all school property loaned to them during the school year.
  • Students shall use polite and socially acceptable means of address in interacting with staff, volunteers and fellow students. Profanity and obscene gestures are not permitted.

Telephone

  • Children may not use the school telephone except in an emergency. Cedar Hill School may be contacted at 734-3535. Children will not be called out of class to accept a phone call from a parent or guardian. In cases of an emergency, the parent is asked to contact the Principal who will make the necessary arrangement. Children are not allowed to call home for forgotten homework, instruments, lunches, etc.

Cell Phones

  • Students at Cedar Hill School are not allowed to use cell phones during the school day. Any cell phone used by a student in school will be confiscated for the day and returned to the student at the end of the day.

Harassment Policies

  • A student who attends Cedar Hill Elementary School has the same rights as all other citizens. Any person or group who denies or attempts to prevent a person or persons from availing themselves of the freedom to enjoy these rights will be dealt with as severely as the law permits. Harassment, if allowed to continue, creates a climate of fear and hostility.
  • The Administration takes harassment very seriously and regards it as a violation of Civil Rights. It is expected that all students will treat each other with respect.
  • Harassment is defined as the unwanted attention from anyone through annoying, threatening or demanding behavior and actions. It can range from verbal to actual attack.
  • The use of terms, signs or symbols of racial, religious, ethnic, sexual bias or gender is a form of bigotry. Such communication, including sexual harassment is meant to dehumanize and cause pain to the individual or group attacked. Slurs of this nature will not be permitted and individuals who act in this manner will have to face the full consequences of the State of Rhode Island, Warwick School Department and Federal Laws.
  • Consequences can include office conferences, parental involvement, and suspension from school and police intervention in serious cases, and referrals to the Principal of Cedar Hill Elementary School.
