Health Services
A school nurse is available at Cedar Hill School on a full time basis. If an emergency arises, the nurse will contact parents as quickly as possible. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in the school office.
Accident Insurance
Accident insurance is provided through the school at a nominal fee. Your participation is optional.
Emergency Telephone Numbers
Due to the possibility of illness or injury to your child, it is important that the school be able to contact you. Please make sure your child knows your daily plans. Emergency numbers for you, and your friends or relatives are to be written on the Emergency and Accident Cards that are distributed at the beginning of the school year. These cards must be updated as necessary or when changes occur.
Administration of Medication
The school nurse can administer prescribed medication provided that a Physician requires it to be administered during school hours. The Cedar Hill School Nurse is available to discuss this procedure with parents at any time during the school year. Prescribed medication must be sent to the school in the original pharmaceutical container and with explicit instructions from the physician. The school nurse is not able to distribute over-the-counter medication such as aspirin or cough syrup. Students are never allowed to self-medicate at any time whatsoever during the school year. No child is allowed to transport medication to school. The parent or guardian must bring it in.
Puberty Classes
Each spring of the academic school year will host a puberty class conducted by the school nurse. The nurse will follow the recognized health program of the Warwick Public Schools. Notification of these classes will be sent to parents in an orderly fashion and any parent may request that their child refrain from participating. Any parent with pertinent questions regarding the program is encouraged to discuss this matter with the school nurse prior to the class.
Substance Abuse Policy
Possession, use, or sale of any mind-altering substances (drug or alcohol) is not only against the law, but also represents a very serious discipline offense. Students are strictly prohibited from the sale, use or possession of drugs or alcohol, on school grounds, during school, on the school buses or at school bus stops and during school sponsored events.
