Academics

Agendas

All students in grades three through six will be given a homework agenda that is purchased by the Cedar Hill School Parent Organization. This agenda is to be used to record homework assignments for theses students. In the event that an agenda is lost, the students will have to purchase a second agenda at their own expense. The cost of a replaced agenda is approximately $5.00.

Weekly Folders

Each student at Cedar Hill School will receive a Weekly Folder. This folder will be sent home on each and every Friday of the school year. It will contain both corrected schoolwork and also school notices. The Weekly Folder must be signed and returned to the school on the following Monday.

Make-up Work

Make-up work may be given by the individual teacher. If a student is not at school for an extended period of time, assignments may be obtained by calling the school at 8:45 am and may be picked up in the office at end of the school day. Please call in advance to give the teacher ample time to prepare the make-up work in order that classroom teaching may not be interrupted. Students who are to be absent from class for extended periods of time must complete all missed assignments. This make-up-work becomes the responsibility of both the student and the parent. Cedar Hill School does not advocate vacation time other than what is developed within the Warwick Public School Calendar. The student must make up schoolwork that is missed within an appropriate time period. Failure to do so may result in lower academic performance as recorded on this student Report Card. Questions regarding this procedure should be directed towards the Principal. Parents will not be allowed to request schoolwork in advance.

Evaluation Team

Cedar Hill School like all other elementary schools in Warwick has an Evaluation Team for use in evaluating student learning problems. The team, consisting of School Psychologist, Social Worker, Guidance Counselor, Principal, and Classroom Teacher work towards helping students find academic success at Cedar Hill School. Any concerns regarding the Evaluation Team should be addressed to the Principal.

Homework Policy

Homework shall be assigned to students from grade one through six with a view to establishing habits of self-discipline, application, research and creativeness. The Superintendent shall establish among teachers of the various grades an understanding of adequate and good habit forming assignments. Your child is responsible for assigned homework to be completed and returned to school. The following general guidelines are provided to make you aware of the average amount of homework students experience from one grade level to the next. Homework assignments should increase gradually in difficulty and frequency throughout the grades.

  • Grade One – An average of 10-15 minutes
  • Grade Two – An average of 15-20 minutes

  • Grade Four – An average of 30-35 minutes
  • Grade Five – An average of 40-45 minutes
  • Grade Six – An average of 45-60 minutes

If your child is spending a significant amount of time beyond listed above please contact the teacher and set up a conference.
